God of War is one of the most popular video game franchises in history, but it has been on a bit of a rollercoaster recently. The latest entry into the series, God of War: Ragnarok, was originally scheduled for release in 2019. However, this was changed to 2022 after poor reviews and disappointing sales.

If it weren’t for Christopher Judge, God of War: Ragnarok would have been launched this year on PlayStation platforms. That’s according to Kratos’ voice actor, who disclosed in a series of tweets today that the game was delayed owing to injuries he sustained while working on it in 2019. Judge had to have extensive surgery, including hip replacements, which forced Santa Monica Studio to postpone God of War: Ragnarok until 2022.
Judge tweeted, “I need to be honest.” “No one has given their approval to this. Ragnarok was delayed due of me, according to the loving fanbase. In August of this year, I was unable to walk. Back surgery, both hip replacements, and knee surgery were all required. They waited for me to get out of rehab…”
Right now, I’m feeling down in the dumps. I need to be open and honest. No one has given their approval to this. Ragnarok was delayed due of me, according to the loving fanbase. Judge didn’t say much about his injuries or how long it took him to heal, but he did say that he’s sharing this tale to show his appreciation for Santa Monica Studio, which has proved to be one of Sony’s most capable first-party developers.
“There were no threats, no ‘who do you think you are?’ questions. All I have is love and support. And @SonySantaMonica has remained silent about the delay and its reason. Studios are jerks, but this organization, from top to bottom, should inspire us. They went above and above for the crew…”
“I can’t speak about it, but I’ve told everyone involved that it’s not the most classy thing I’ve ever heard of in this industry. Every shot in the Game of Thrones series is filled with the hearts and souls of everyone involved. I’d want to express my gratitude to everyone who has enabled me to participate…”
“And laugh, and love, and weep, in this thing of ALL OF OURS, without judgement, but with unconditional support and love.”
God of War: Ragnarok has yet to get an official release date from Santa Monica Studio, although promotional materials indicate that it will arrive in 2022. Both PS4 and PS5 systems will be supported.
